The solution is don't use XFS. Use the old method.
Run xconf of xf86config as root ( this is the old tool to configure X).
Press enter on all questions, except when it asks u where to save the
XF86Config file. Reply 'yes' to save in the dir other than the default location
of XF86Config. Edit this generated file and copy and paste the entries of the
FontPath in Files Section ( Probably less than 10 lines) in your existing
XF86Config file. And uncomment the line with FontPath "unix/:-1". Put the
manual fontpaths instead of this line as they are.
u can now /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs stop and startx.
Alternately, uninstall and reinstall the xfs's rpm. It should work. But again u
might have the same problem. So better stick to manual FontPaths. u also save
some of your RAM memory.

Pick up the lines which look something like this and paste in your current
XF86Config file
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
# FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
# FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
