install problem rh6.1

Greetings all,

I am putting together a new Pentium II based machine (450 Mhz) with a
17 GB hard drive. I created two partitions both 8 or GB. primary dos is
c:\ and ext dos logical drive is d:\ with the remainder of the space. My
problem is when I begin the install of redhat 6.1 and get to the point
of creating ext2 partitions, I get stuck. I first delete the ext dos
partition, as I have done before, and then highlighting the remaining
/dev/hda1 I click add and create the swap partition successfully, then
when creating additional linux native partitions, I get the same error:
there is currently unallocated space, / partition is too large or some
such thing. This is a UDMA/66 (5400 RPM) drive on an ASUS P3B-F board.

any ideas? I wrote previously about NFS installations on older machines;
I abandoned that for the time being and bought a CDROM and have
installed linux in this fashion. much more efficient.
 Thanks so much in advance.
