Login at console failed so I restarted using single user mode and changed
the permissions for the files I modified to chmod 777 to see if things
would fix themselves. Restarted, and still no work.
Next I logged onto one of my other Redhat installations at work and checked
the permissions to be sure I didn't miss any permission settings. Nothing
found.
Can anyone point me in a direction for this problem. I have a feeling there
is a problem with the syslog, but how could it affect logins? I thought
maybe PAM, but it appears that automatic logins by root for such things as
news and mail function fine, and ftp has no problem. I thought maybe the
passwd file in /etc was corrupted, but it looks fine.
Thoughts??
