Hi All:
My friend and I are having some trouble with a Redhat 6.1 install.
Between us we have only done about five installations--so we are relative
newbies.
Heres the computer:
PII with a 266 processor, 128 Megs of RAM, two 10 Gig drives.
The problem:
After booting, the computer seems to work well (including X11); but it
only works for a short time before it crashes with a General Protection
Fault. Naturally the system locks up and a hard reboot is necessary then.
We timed the occurrence of this crash, and it happens between 6 minutes and
15 minutes after booting.
We tried:
We disabled gpm. We removed one 64 Meg SIMM(we wondered if it might be
flaky).
Unfortunately, the computer will not stay alive long enough for us to copy
the screens of garbage that occur with the crash. The beginning of the
mesage reads,'general protection fault :6cb4.'
I am at a loss here, and we would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
Cheers,
Brad
