I'm not sure that this is what I want to do.   These settings are the same
between the two machines that are under discussion here, yet their
behavior is completely different.  One machine allows general user access
via an automount.  The other doesn't.  There _must_ be a configuration
file somewhere that addresses this other than /etc/fstab.  It appears that
the "linuxconf" program only addresses the /etc/fstab file (please let me
know if I'm wrong!)  The line in /etc/fstab that governs the behavior of
/dev/cdrom is the same between these two machines.

What could that other config file be?
