LILO can only use BIOS to access the disk. Since BIOS
vendors don't fully support the standards, this issue keeps
comming up. The EIDE standard give a spec on C/H/S sizes
but BIOS writers aren't following it. So there have
been problems at 2G, 8G, and the most recent is at 32G.
The linear option for LILO can help, but it depends on how
BIOS and linux see the drive layout.
I quit using LBA and just have a small partition
for the kernels that LILO will be able to access
on any machine. Works great, but I also don't have
Gate's ware on my machines either...
What is the partition layout?
What does BIOS saw about the drive? C/H/S and LBA sectors.
What does linux say (check the boot messages)?
what does FDISK say?
