  Actually 3Com/US Robotics has a couple of modems that work if you do
the right setserial command.  Ted Tso resently back ported his latest
serial drive from 2.3 with support for a number of pci.  The real
problem is that many pci modems are win modems.  Most win modems will
not work under linux.
