Clusters???

I have been reading about clustering solutions and I was wondering if some
one could fill in the gray areas I have. SMP clustering like Beowulf can be
deployed as a platform for software like Oracle parallel server that have
been re-written for SMP.
However when deploying platforms for highly available web or ftp servers, I
would use a solution like Linux Virtual Servers (LVS) with load balancing
and port forwarding.

Am I barking up the right tree???
