I have a server setup on an old Compaq pre..300. I have another machine
identical in every way. I tried using ghost, and made an image of the
working Linux box, and restore it to the other machine. Here is the
problem:
I restore the image to the new machine, and it gets part way
through the word lilo...All IC is Li and it stops.
First thing I tried is used to boot/rescue disk I made during
install, and it gets through most of it when type in linux at the
prompt. Then I get Panic something about the Kernel.
Second thing I tried, was to use boot disk, then type in rescue. I
use the same disk for the Ram drive...then I get a new error -- panic
can't find the init file, suggest -- 'init='.
I know that loading linux on these machines are a breeze, but it
would be nice since I am using this in a work environment to make an
image, then if someone can actually break one, the pop the image and 1
hr later, it is ready to go.
The function of these old machines is to be a 2 gig image server using
SAMBA.
Which I have to say is a breeze to setup and works like a charm.
PS can anyone remember the command to stop X windows from loading, or
to shut it down after it is running. Can't remember off the top of my
head.
Thanks,
Cademan
