Known buglet in 6.1
The fix is, as root
cd /etc
edit (pico, vi, emacs) conf.modules & add the following line.
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
save & exit
then
/sbin/modprobe lp
your port will be detected in printtool & you can set up the printer
