RE: /etc/hosts vs dns server



how have you configured your /etc/hosts.conf file

I generally use

ipaddress		alias		alias+[domain address]

i.e

192.168.153.1	server	server.com
192.168.153.2	print		print.com

etc

pinging alias will work for me. it depends how you have configured
your network
