I can't FTP

I just installed redhat 6.1.  I ran the FTP, and it worked with the kernel
2.2.12.  When I upgraded to the kernel 2.2.15, I can neither FTP to a new
host, or FTP from another system, into the one I just built.  When I FTP, I
get the message:  Host Name Lookup Failure.
