Jeff,
Thanks for your help. Please elaborate a bit more. I cannot verify yet
that 4.0.x is installed.
1) When I run Xconfigurator --preferXf4 it tells me --preferXf4: unknown
option
2) If I run Xconfigurator - At the top of the screen I see version 4.4.3.
Should this version understand the -preferXf4 option? Or is this the 3.3.6
version?
3) When I look under /usr/bin/X11 and /usr/X11R6 I only see a single set of
executables. If XFree86 4.0.1 was installed, then where would I find it?
4) If I run through the Xconfigurator program and generate a new
configuration, then after restarting X and doing X -version I still see
3.3.6.
Thanks,
Mark

4.0.1 is installed... you just arent running it. I dont know about hte
upgrades, as I usually just do a fresh install when going from major
version to major version, but when doing a fresh install at least, 4.0.1
is installed, as well as 3.3.6. The installer decides if you can run
4.0.1 or are better running 3.3.6, and configures accordingly. You can
set it to run by running Xconfigurator with the switch --preferXf4 to
make it run X 4.0.1.
keep in mind tho that you may not see any difference depending on the
type of video card you are running.
