Sorry if this post comes through twice. Had a minor mail problem.
Hi everyone,
I'm looking at configuring a seperate machine (pentium 133, 1GB hard drive
32mb RAM) with RedHat 6.2 to do automatic dial (external usr sportster 56k
modem) to the internet for the computers on my home network. I have a couple
of questions about this I hope someone can help me with.
First of all, the only thing this server will be doing is dial-up and some
kind of firewall. I have another server to do the DNS, DHCP, mail etc. What
are the minimum apps that I would need to install on this machine to have it
work as auto dial-up and firewall? I wan't make it as secure as possible.
Eventually this will have a dedicated connection to the internet and will be
the firewall to my home network and I don't want the script kiddies etc
installing a root kit. Any firewall tips/tricks? I will have another look at
the firewall or security how-to when I get home.
Second, in preperation of configuring this server I looked at the Serial,
Modem, Diald and PPP how-to's. Can someone that has done this before give me
a few more ideas on what needs to be done? The how-to's were not the
simplest things to follow.
Thanks for your help.
Brian
