your /etc/hosts should have (if not connected to net),give some ip address
to your machine and hostname.domain-name

IP-ADDRESS hostname.domain-name shortname

choose any ipaddress,fullname etc.

incase you are connected to net then

give nameserver (Primary DNS,you may also give secondary DNS also)
/etc/resolv.conf

search your-domain-name
nameserver Ip-address of DNS.

i hope this should fix it.
