RE: VPN Server - A bit More

Matt,
Sorry if my post might have caused any confusion with respect to your
answer. I am covering this question on 3 reflectors right now, so I got
confused. The information is accurate though.

My home network is composed of a number of OS's - Win 98SE, Win ME,
Redhat and NT Workstation. I would like to reconfigure the NT Workstation,
which does support being a VPN Server, (after a struggle) to become another
Linux box. To do so requires that I put a VPN Server on either Linux or one
of the low end Microsoft OS's.

I would prefer to do this on my Linux boxes, because they are on all the
time and are much more stable after a power failure. The Microsoft stuff is
junk when the power goes out and comes back on. Too much hand holding to get
it all running again.

However, I didn't think I'd find a Microsoft compatible VPN Server for
the Linux environment, but also didn't think it would hurt to ask.

If anyone else reading this post has any ideas about how to do this, I'd
certainly be interested in figuring out how to do it under Linux.

Thanks,
Mark

Matthew,
Hi, and thanks. I had seen this on Sourceforge, but dismissed it. Perhaps
I was premature. My reasons for dismissing it were:

1) It seems to say a lot about Win NT and Win 2K, but nothing about Win ME
or Win 98. I definitely need the low end OS support.

2) There was no discussion of a server side component. Is there one? My
issue today isn't really how strong uSoft's VPN client is, it's that I need
to set up a VPN Server on a Win ME box as I want my NT box to go away.

3) It's listed as beta software, which is OK, but there didn't seem to be
any mailing lists, so I was unclear if there was really much going on here.

Let me know if I've misunderstood what this software is good for. I'll
definitely check it out a bit more myself.

Is there a Sourceforge project for the Linux CIPE stuff? I didn't spot
one.

Thanks,
Mark

Personally, I use cipe for my vpn connections, but I only use linux
machines. There is a cipe port to win32 in progress however. I've never
really touched cipe on non anything other than linux.

Here is the url: http://cipe-win32.sourceforge.net
