Well that means that the sound driver is working, other wise aumix, gmix
etc will complain that no audio device is found etc.
BTW Could you please tell me where you got the emu10k1 driver from, did
you compile it from the driver source you obtained from creatives site, or
was it from the kernel 2.2.17 ?

What I told was to send a file to /dev/dsp which should cause the sound
card to make noise, its a easy way to see whether the output actually goes
to the sound card etc.

Ok, just make sure that the volume levels are ok, and then say that you
have a file (any size say 25-100k) called "anyfile" just try sending it
to the soundcard,
cat anyfile > /dev/dsp
Which will send the contents of the file called "anyfile" to /dev/dsp,
which should cause your sound card to make some noise.

Well the creative written emu10k1.o driver is not the best driver for your
sblive, because it doesnt yet (1 month back when I last checked it ) have
MIDI support, and WINE did not work with it properly, so what I did was to
install the alsa-drivers for the sb-live card, which support midi too, you
just load a set of MIDI patches (supplied with the sblive cd) and you have
got great MIDI in linux. And the digital sound is great too.
So what we can do is try to get this emu10k1.0 driver working and if we
fail or you are more interested in the alsa-drivers we can try that
instead, which is much more easier too I think. Please feel free to mail
me directly if you wish.
Best Wishes,
Grendel
