To my knowledge, RedHat have very limited hardware checking. This is
especially true with regards to your particular problem. There are however
several programs that come with the RedHat distribution that can assist you.
For X-Windows, I would suggest trying Xconfigurator. This should correct
your video problem.

Is there a way to force RH6.2 to check the hardware during boot?
Perhaps more to the point,
I have put a HDD in a different box. The HDD has RH6.2 installed. Much
of the hardware is considerably different than when originally
installed. The most irksome is the video card. When it gets to the gui
login, only half of the screen has detail.
I need to correct that so that it displays in a lower resolution and
less colors and perhaps I will then see a complete screen.
