Re: When compiling do I need to keep unpacked files ?

Some keep the files in the directory for compiling other things against
them. I haven't compiled it in a long time, but the fox libraries used to
do this and might still. It would compile the libraries but, not install
them anywhere. It was intended to be placed someplace in /usr/src and kept
for the future with all references pointing to the location.

There have been others that don't quickly come to mind.

There are also files I have compiled and do compile that require the
source files of xscreensaver in order to work. Basically, compile and not
install xscreensaver, compile the other sources, pointing to where the
xscreensaver sources are located.

In the case of the xscreensaver stuff, I compile the sources and install
them. Then I delete the sources. If/when I need to compile something against
them again, I untar and compile, then compile the others against them, then
delete the sources of both.
