No Mouse in Quake 2

People i am in a very odd position and it really upsets me ... so help me out
here ! 
I hope some you might have had some experience with running quake 2 with a
vodoo 1 ...
it took me a week to get all the drivers plus glide and mesa together ...
configure them and install them ...
now the vodoo one gets detected very nicely in my system and there are no
problems or hitches ...however when i run quake 2 and change the driver from
software to 3dfx gl or miniport quake 2  it works perfectly .... quake 2 comes
out very nicely !! HOWEVER my mouse refuses to get detected !!! i mean i cant
use my mouse ! 
i can use the mouse when i use a software driver  ! 
however i cant use it with the 3dfx drivers !!! 
what could be the problem and how can i debug it ????

my mouse is a serial genius netmouse pro on com1 
system is running redhat 6.2 
please reply asap !
