greetings-
after weeks of frustration, i managed to partition (using the defaults),
and install the 6.2 server packages on a dated packard bell 833 box,
and i'm ready to move ahead.
rather than spend a lot more time doing the trial and error thing, what's
the best way to install gnome on my machine, or is it not recommended.
(had 800MB HD space; 300 MB left+/- and 16 MB RAM). the machine has
all the basic components needed, and a new NIC card. the RH standard
workstation installs failed due to a lack of space, and i will only need the
basic GUI functions initially.
my end goal is to have the machine set up as a network proxy with some
basic services (assigning 1-3 dynamic IP addresses from our DSL provider
Covad via Mindspring while securing the network).
i have red hat 6.2 basic - boxed, bought the o'reilly linux in a nutshell
version 3, and have some (limited) experience with UNIX. what would
be the most efficient way to move forward...i'm kind of burnt out after the
first 2 weeks, but perhaps it will get better from here on in...
any and all advice is appreciated.
