ping issue

Folks:

I'm running (mostly) redhat-6.0, and 'ping' used to work, but since a few
days ago, 'ping' hangs no matter what host I try. i.e., 'ping localhost' will
transmit & receive one packet, and then hang. Consequently, 'ping -c 1
localhost' works, and immediately returns. This behavior is the same whether
I use 'localhost', an IP I assign to my netcard, or my static IP I have when
I connect to the internet.

I noticed that there was an update 'netkit' on redhat's site, and I
determined by 'rpm -qf `which ping` that it was part of netkit, and I
upgraded, but still I get the same behavior.

Anyone know what to look at? Has this happened to anyone else?
