RPM upgrades

Has anyone ever come across a strange event when upgrading from 6.0 to 6.1,
what happened was that I have already manually upgraded some RPM's (Imlib,
enlightenment, esound etc) and when I tried to run the upgrade to 6.1 then
imlib and enlightenment got downgraded back to their original versions...I
then tried to run rpm -Uvh on the various packages and all seemed to upgrade
okay, however, when I rebooted then I got error messages telling me that it
was unable to initialise imlib.

I have also tried to install 6.1 fresh and then try to install the RPM's
after that but with the same results...any one else had the same thing or
similar ??
