Help ! - Kernel recompile problem

Hi there guys,

Today I updated to Redhat 7.0! Great, everything went 100 % ok, and it rules!

Only thing is I have an IDE HP CD-writer, so, as in the past, I have to
recompile the kernel for Scsi emulation. This is what I did (several times
already today):

make mrproper
make xconfig
make dep
make clean

up to this point everything goes according to plan. Then comes:

make bzImage.

After rumbling away for about 15 minutes, with about 50x "warning: pasting
would not give a valid preprocessing token" and "warning: nothing can be pasted
after this token", it stops with these last couple of lines:

make[1]: entering directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/arch/i386/lib'
make all_targets
make[2]: entering directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/arch/i386/lib'
gcc -D__KERNEL__-_/usr/src/linux/include -D_ASSEMBLY__ -tradititional -c
checksum.S -o checksum.o
checksum.S:231: badly punctuated parameter list in #define
checksum.S:237: badly punctuated parameter list in #define
make[2]:*** [checksum.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/arch/i386/lib'
make[1]:*** [checksum.o] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/arch/i386/lib'
make: *** [_dir_arch/i386/lib] Error 2

Could anyone please tell what's going on? I once had a similar problem when I
upgraded my kernel a few months back, and ended up reinstalling (I just can't
live without my CDW!). Well, this installation was a complete install (thus not
an upgrade), so I can't figure out what the problem could be.

Many thanks in advance,

Ralph
