You can save yourself a lot of trouble by doing this:

On a linux machine:

Put the redhat install CD in the cdrom. mount the cdrom mount -t iso9660
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom.
change into the images directory. put a blank floppy in the floppy drive.
type in cat rescue.img > /dev/fd0
Wait till the copy is done. boot the broken system with your already made
boot floppy and use the rescue option. When the prompt asks for the next
disk, put in your now created rescue disk. You should boot up to a # prompt
and be able to correct the problems your having.

>From a windows machine:

Put the CD in the cdrom drive. cd into the dosutils directory.
type in rawrite The program will ask for the file name, type in
\images\rescue.img
the program will ask for a target, type in a: ( put a floppy disk in )
hit enter and wait for the copy to finish. You can then follow the same
directions as above once you have the rescue disk made.

Hope this helps.
