Re: rh7 install problem (still)

I thought I read somewhere in the docs for 7.0 that the promise ata100 specifically would not be recognized.  I then loaded up 7.??? (wolverine which uses 2.4 kernel and  does recognize all that stuff.)

		Hi Chuck,

Well,
redhat, I still (one week later) have no response from you about making my rh7
install on my machine.

I would appreciate a response this time.

I think you have a wrong idea about this list. This is a user list (well, the
occasional RedHatter comes around). The users on this list are usually very
helpful, but in no way obliged to you in any way.
If you want RedHat support, have a look at the documentation that comes with
your box and find out how to contact RH support.

I have a promise ata-100 controller and a maxtor ata-100 disk in the machine
which the rh7 boot floppy kernel doesn't see. Therefore I cannot install the
system.

I believe I need to replace the boot floppy with a boot image that has
promise drivers, and then I should be fine.

On your first CD is a driver disk image. I am not sure if this disk contains
a driver for the Promise ATA-100, but you could give it a try. Or try to find
an updated driver disk on RedHat's ftp site, or one of its mirrors.
Another solution is to set the controller to ATA-66 in the bios. This way you
can probably install RH Linux on your machine, and find out how to install the
Promise module afterwards. The penalty for running ATA-66 will probably not be
too big.

Good luck,

Leonard.
