Thanks Stefan for your help on solving the auth/tpc bind: Address 
already in use.  By commenting out the auth line in inetd.conf, I was 
able to solve the problem

Dear everyone,
Thanks for all your help in the past. Please let me ask more questions.
I am not too sure what commenting out the auth line in inetd.conf means, 
but I assume it means that the authentication daemon problem will be 
disabled.  What will this effect?  Will it stop valid users from gaining 
access to needed services? Is this in any way related to PAM  (will it 
disable PAM), or am I being too dumb for words?
