truth about redhat's gcc compiler

I have been told by a fellow redhat user that the gcc compiler for redhat
(RedHat 7) differs from Linux's standard gcc compiler. Therefore, if
someone was to download the latest linux kernel from
http://www.kernel.org/ and try to compile all of it (i.e. run the make
mrproper, make config, make install) the whole compilation would succeed,
but the kernel would not run correctly (i.e. the machine would not run
after reboot).

Is there any truth to the above?

I wouldn't ask, except I have tried the above and that was exactly what I
observed. Thankfully, the README that comes with the Linux kernel advised
to keep the bzimage of my old kernel, so I just had to change the
lilo.conf file and re-run lilo and I was back up and running.

Thanks,
Tim
