fonts in linux (RE: postscript/pdf files)

I've noticed in general that fonts on applications like netscape,
staroffice, etc, seem kind of weak the way you describe. Is this a general
"feature" of linux? I wasn't sure if it was a limitation of the fonts, or
the graphics card, video, etc...
I'd love to hear others thoughts on it.

In RH6.0, i try to view postscript files in kde/gnome and notice that fonts

hard to read. They are like weak in darkness. How can i improve this?.
