Hi all,
I attempted to do a multi-boot installation this morning on a couple of
new machines. One machine uses as standard South Bridge EIDE controller and
that installation went fine. DOS, WinME and RH7 all working fine under
System Commander 2K.
The second machine, using an Asus A7V, has two IDE controllers - one in
the South Bridge, currently attached to the CDROM, and the second an
external Promise ATA-100 which has the hard drive attached. disk drives in
it. It is an Asus A7V motherboard using a Via chipset and an extra Promise
ATA-100 HD controller.
The machine runs fine, and has DOS and Win ME on it using System
Commander 2K. When I attempted to do the RH7 installation, it fails saying
that there are no drives found in the system. It seems to not see the second
controller at all.
I took a quick look around on Google and found others got this
motherboard working, but there seem to be different strategies that people
are using. I'll continue to study, but want to ask a couple of questions:
1) Is ATA-100 supported in RH7?
2) How do I get the controller to be recognized by a boot floppy?
a) Do I need to create a modified installation floppy to handle this?
b) If so, what's the process?
NOTE: I do not care (yet) about actually running ATA-100. That can come
later, if possible.
Thanks in advance,
Mark
