I tried a bit of it today.
One thing I noticed is that one cannot rlogin as root though he can login as some other user and do some thing like
su -l root
and work as root.
I did telnet the linux server through windoze(cleint) and logged in as root . I then changed myself as the root user through
su -l root
and then I typed in startx and boom the X-windows started in the linux server( new thing i found out ) but then when I killed the Xwindows in the client(which had started the Xsession on the server remotely (that was cool) ) through ctrl+c the Xwindows was killed in the server. And the other intresting was that all the information which is printed on the console before the X startup is in the client side but the Xwindows is in the server.
Thanks once again I will try the samba server and see if it works(it should i guess).
I wanted the network in such a way that all the transactions on the net that is the sending and receiving of packets are done through linux but the packets be made available to the windows machine surfing the web
I don't know if that is what they call the router as.

list suggested it (thanks for the tip, Matt!), and it's working out quite
nicely.

It takes a bit of planning to make your network look the way you want it.
There are a few security issues to address, but nothing requires late-nights
and cartons of cigs to get through.  READ first.  May I suggest
http://www.samba.org for some on-the-loo reading :-)

Samba is a bit intimidating at first because it has so many options.  Don't
panic--you only need a few basic ones (mostly what's already in the default
smb.conf file--just edit your values in).  It doesn't take very long to get
the hang of it.  There are a lot of really nice folks on this list who've
been through this same scenario and are willing to help.

It's a beautiful thing when networks work together.

Hello!
I have a doubt hope you guys can help me out.
I am about install linux in a system which is going to be my server .
Through telnet all the clients (windows ) are going to communicate it.
Is it possible to have all the facilities( like Xwindows) to be made available to them or do they have to do rlogin.
I wanted in future to that the internet access be made through the linux serevr
The other network is of WindowsNT 4.0 and I want such that if a person logs into the network he must be able to communicate with both NT and the linux server and avail the facilities provided by them. Hope this is possible.
BTW I have Redhat 7.0 installed in the server.
I checked that the machines were communicating i.e, the clients( with windows98 SE as os) logged into the NT network are communicating through the telnet to the linux server but couldnt check for the Xwindows cause it was not installed in the server rather coudnt get it installed . It(the linux server) had 810chipset, 600celeron processor, 1MB shared vga card inbuilt into the board . It (Xwindows ) was not getting installled . Any way I have installed sis6326 so that it should work now.
