RE: Which DNS servers should a DNS server have.

Hiya Jonas:

It's really a matter of administrative taste. I always point my DNS servers
to themselves which offers me a quick test of zone information. I'm a
damn-good programmer--I can't type for squat, though, and I know it :-)
When I modify a zone file and sighup BIND, I follow with nslookup &/or dig
just to make sure I'm getting the right answer. If I don't, then I'm still
right there on that machine and can correct my fatfingering all in one
place. If DNS ain't happy, ain't nobody happy; so better to find out
quickly.

Otherwise, I'm not sure it makes a difference. Anyone else have an opinion?

Bill

I've read the Cricket book but can't find the answer.

When you set up a server to be a DNS server, which DNS servers should you
enter in the networking configuration? For a primary DNS server should the
DNS servers be itself and the secondary? Or should it be the cashing named
server?

Which DNS server should the secondary have?
