RE: Problem with XFree84 4.0.3 and RH 7.1

Hi Bert,
i faced the same situation, i installed RH 7.1 and it detected my
Voodoo Banshee
but when i started the X session i got thing as you described.
I started Xconfigurator from shell and i changed the Monitor resolution and
it works just fine.
the old resolution was set to 1280x1024, so I lowered it to 1024x768, try
different resolution on your system until you find the proper one :)

Subject: Problem with XFree84 4.0.3 and RH 7.1

Dear all,

I tried to install RH 7.1 last weekend,
The installation went OK, but after rebooting
I had trouble with my Xserver. The screen was kind of funny. The canvas of
the kdm loginscreen was gone, leaving the buttons floating above the
background.
Text was kind of smudged, and the mouse pointer was looking dammaged.

My system has a voodoo banshee card. This was detected correctly by the
installer. Also the graphical login was looking very sharp (so X _can_
work!!) Does anyone have suggestions for a working 4.0.3 setup? Or else how
can I switch to Xfree 3.3.6? How hard is this?
I noticed a lot of packages depend on the XFree-libs-4.0.3. Can I use "rpm
--nodeps" here?

Regards,

Bert Haverkamp
