Well I have 3 ViewSonics With 3 RH servers.. one has an ati
Rage, another has a voodoo3, and my third has a GeForce on a GS815
21" view sonic.. Cranked up to 1600x and is fine.. the other 2 are
PF790 viewsonic RH 6.2.3 (Piglet) on the voodoo3..the othe ris a
viewsonic G773-2 with the ATI Rage.. 1200x .. nothing but goodness...and
all is quiet and well..I sat down today and looked over it all and HAD to
eat a peanutbutter and jelly sandwitch! SO if 6.2 can do it with the
GeForce on the GS815 @ 1600x res.. I dont think RH7 with better Xfree
etc.. will have a problem at ALL

A few things:
1) Your video card and video memory determine what the max
resolution/color depth/refresh rates you can send TO
the monitor.
2) XFree86-4 supports DDC, so it can as the monitor what
it supports.
3) You can tell X to TRY other settings, but you have to TELL
X to to that.
4) Modern monitors will not kill themselvs. They will shut down
and/or give you a message that the settings are bad. My
cheap
19" monitor ($200) does that, so I'm sure the high-end
ones
will to.
