Hello,
I have the following problem. I'm using RedHat 6.0, but I
would like to upgrade certain packages (e.g. XFree86, glibc and several others).
I've downloaded the packages via FTP and tried to install/upgrade them using
standard rpm commands. However my RPM program reported errors ("This version of
RPM supports only major number versions <= 3 - or something similar). So I
thought I'd better upgrade the RPM program package first. But when I tried to
upgrade RPM using RPM the program reported the same problem. I have two
questions therefore:
1) What may be the problem and what commands to use to upgrade
the packages in question?
Or even better:
2) How to upgrade my RPM using RPM? I'm afraid deinstalling
the previous version will end up in me having no program to handle my packages,
am I right in this respect?
Thanks in advance for help,
Przemek
