John,
  I agree with the other message in this thread.  VMware is really a
great application.  It costs some money but it really gives you a
reliable way to continue to use your existing applications in Windows
and begin a serious migration to Linux.  I'm taking existing machines
with Windows on them and creating dual boots with Linux.  After setting
up a dual boot system install VMware and you have a bridge from Linux
into Windows.  One thing you need to consider is the system requirements
for VMware.  More RAM and a reasonably current system.  When running
Windows through VMware from Linux your system resources such as CPU use
and RAM get pushed to the limit.
  Two other products you might want to consider for creating and
maintaining your dual boots are Partition Magic  and Symatec's Norton
Ghost 2001 Personal Edition.  With these two additional products, I've
managed to train a technician to deal with all the particulars
associated with the dual boots, including backups and imaging.
