I just installed vmware successfully yesterday on my Pentium III 800mh/z. I
tried once before on my old PI 233, and got immediately a warning about my
processor being too slow. If I remember correctly, you need at lest 300 or
something, so I know for sure you wll be able to run it ;-)
Just remember that windows will run quite a bit slower than if it was
normally run with a clean reboot, as it is running Linux at the same time.
Another thing is that it seems to only be able to have sound with a SB 16
PCI, so I with my 128 PCI can't get any sound. On the other hand, why would
I even need sound, it's not like I could run Linux -> Windows -> and Unreal
Tournament under the same computer ;-) That would be expecting just a bit
too much ;-)
Seting Vmware up is quite easy, as it asks you where you want the
filesystem for Windows to reside. Actually this is just 1 big file (grows
the more you install under Windows) with a coupld os config files to go
with it. You have to start vmware then with a boot floppy and fdisk, format
and install, Just like you were installing a real Windows oartition.
On my system I have WinME with CorelDRAW9 running great. Actually it's the
only reason I installed Vmware, as I'm not planning of buying the Linux
version for 150 US$ or so if I have the Windows already. On the other hand,
I would download it if only I could find it (hint hint) :-)
Just give it a try if you have enought drivespace (you can state a max file
size, default 2000 MB's).
Good luck,
Ralph
