Yes, there should be plenty of documentation about setting up proxy servers (including squid) on a Linux box. Which Linux distro are you using ? If you have squid installed and you installed the documentation then it should already be on your system. It's usually located in "/usr/doc/squid.....". Also check your "Net3, PPP, and Networking" howto's. These are often located in "/usr/doc/Howto" on you're system. They can also be found on line. You should be able to find some info regarding how to fine tune your connection for maximal performance.

Try using a proxy server like squid (for caching). It helps. But it doesn't
_enhance_ the connectivity.
