A excellent secure easily configured dropin ftp daemon, much better than
that buggy piece of utter thrash called Wu-ftpd. Its a excellent choice

please edit your profptd.conf file , it normally is there as
/etc/proftpd.conf and change the following line.

# Set the user and group that the server normally runs at.
User                            nobody
Group                           nogroup

Set the Group to a group that is avilable on your system. Actually what
this means is that you set a group and a user of low access capability so
that if by any chance some *beep* hacks in through proftpd he cant do much
because he will be in as user nobody etc.
 
Or you can add a group called nogroup to your system using the groupadd
command, which I think should be the easier thing to do. 

BTW I am suprised doesnt RH have a group called nogroup available by
default, debian and other popular distros certainly have it.
