How do you save emacs settings?

Running emacs 20.7 in Gnome 1.2 under RH 7.1, I can change the font settings under the MULE menu plus change other settings.  But, how do I save these changes?  I have to set the options I want every time I use emacs.  There was a save settings option in Xemacs 19 under Debian.
