	Hi James:
  I really hate to think that is was that simple, which in fact it was. In
no instance of a previous kernel upgrade have I had to use make mrproper, I
think I always stayed away from it due to the fact it wipes the config file.
Even with xconfig it's a tedious job going through and checking all those
kernel options. Thanks for the help,

	Before doing any of the make commands did you do a make mrproper?

  This is really my first submission to the install list, if this is not the
correct list for this question please direct me to the correct one.

  I did an install of Red Hat 7.1 (from scratch) on a new machine, the
install went fine with no problems. I'd downloaded and burned a CD with all
available 7.1 updates from ftp://updates.redhat.com and I put on what seemed
to be all appropriate updates including all updated gcc and library updates
and then proceded to install and configure the updated kernel 2.4.3-12. I
configured using xconfig and then performed make clean; make dep; make
bzImage; make bzdisk with no problem. When I attempted to make modules I
received a fair number of errors and the make failed, I'll include the
console text returned by the make below. I've done a number of kernel
upgrades in the 2.2.x series but this is my first experience with the 2.4.x
kernel, does anyone have any idea's about what the problem here is?
