  /etc/inittab

For the long-term, look for the line that says:

  id:5:initdefault:

Change it to:

  id:3:initdefault:

For the short term, do a <Ctrl><Alt><F1>, log in as root, then execute

  telinit 3

or just reboot after changing inittab.
