I use a Toshiba Laptop that only has one ps2 port so the USB mouse comes in handy so I can
attach both an external keyboard and mouse. I use a Logitech TrackMan Marble wheel and I
have not gotten the wheel working yet either but I haven't spent much time working on it.
You might be able to get some help though at: http://www-sop.inria.fr/koala/colas/mouse-wheel-scroll/

I have a new mouse, a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse. It's a USB mouse
with an adaptor on it which I have plugged into my regular mouse port.
Is there a benefit to having it on the USB port? If so, how is that
configured? Is there a special driver that is required to get it to work
properly under RH6.2? How do I configure XF86Config? Is the Logitech
mouse
a better mouse for Linux?
This is what I have in my XF86Config file now (everything else is
commented out pertaining to the mouse):
Section "Pointer"
Protocol "IMPS/2"
Device "/dev/mouse"
Buttons 5
It works more or less but the wheel doesn't scroll. It also seems to get
lost from time to time stuck somewhere in the corner of the screen. I've
seen references to this problem on google but didn't find a solution
for RH6.2 / XFree86-xfs-3.3.6.
Any help would be appreciated.
