Ok. I assumed you would read the man page ;).

I am a little surprised that "--with=" has the effect you mention. I would
imagine it to do nothing in case of a redundant module. Are you sure aic7xxx
(or whichever module the 2940 uses) doesn't come first in modules.conf?
