router

hi all,

I have some problem with config of my router:
I added the line: "GATEWAY=<IP addres>" 
to "/etc/sysconfig/network" file.

but after I restart my network: "/etc/init.d/network restart"

there is no router in the list:
$>  route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface
129.6.0.0      *               255.255.0.0     U     0      0        0 eth0
127.0.0.0       *              255.0.0.0        U     0      0        0  lo

I can add the router by typing:
$> route add gw <IP address>

Does anyone know why I cann't success to add the router via 
"/etc/sysconfig/network" file.
