The best bet for users with average financial resources like you or me is
to get vmare from vmware.com and to unlock it please visit
astalavista.box.sl and search for a crack for your vmware version.
Vmware is a good tool and I dont like to advocate cracking software openly
on news groups but IMHO useful tools like vmware are so exorbitantly
priced that I have to give this sort of advice, becuase life without a way
of running windoze binaries on linux would be quite annoying and
frustrating.

Wine is quite good, it works especailly well on older (as in date)
executables.
