It might be useful to know something more about the two network
environments, particularly how they differ.

I have a similar situation moving my notebook between office and home
LANs. I solved the problem for myself by making sure that there was a
DHCP server at both locations which would tell my networking software
who it was and what it should be doing. The router at each location is
currently doing this. However, since the router at work is nearly
brain dead, I'll probably be putting up an old PC running Linux as
DHCP server, Time server, DNS server, etc.
