I had RH 7.0 installed on a Compaq Proliant 2500 with 128M Ram and Smart
Array 2/P card. I'm trying to either do a fresh install or upgrade to 7.1
but no matter which way I go I get the same result. On install, it detects
the boot medium and starts the install. When it gets to the "running
anaconda" bit, it fails due to lack of memory. I know there is a 16MB bios
limitation with this machine, so when I specify linux mem=128M at boot time,
it doesn't detect the root device.
VFS: Kernel Panic. Unable to find root device. 48:08 (or something like
that...I'm trying to remember :-)
Anyway, if I specify root=/dev/ida/c0d0p6 on the command line which is what
Compaq says to use, I still get the same result.
7.0 is installed and runs great. I have even used the SmartStart utilities
to try and install, even going as far as a system erase. I have the machine
configured with the smartstart utilities as raid5.
Any Suggestions? I guess I could upgrade the packages, but that's just too
easy.:-)
Thanks.
