I would heartily recommend that you use firestarter
<http://firestarter.sourceforge.net/>, which is a excellent tool for
creating firewalls and has extensive profiling of the packets  and in
short is a very good tool.

You dont require much experience to use it, even a newbie can use it IMHO,
but in the hands of a professional it is a really good classy app.
