Screen of "L"s

On a brand new RH 7.1 installation, we applied linuxconf-1.24
and configured the network interface and NIS, using linuxconf.

No particular error appeared during the linuxconf set up.

When the system was rebooted, after the screen of
RedHat Linux and Linux Up, there was a screen of 
L
L
L
L
...

I have tried starting up the single user mode, but got the
same problem.

Anyone can shed some light on this?
